It’s out with the old and in with the new on Jan. 1, New Year’s Day. The new year is an opportunity to put the past behind you and start fresh. Take some time to decide how you want to live your life in 2012. Amelia Earhart was one person who knew how she wanted to live life. Jan. 11, marks the anniversary of her first solo flight from Honolulu to Oakland, CA. Explore the adventures of this pioneering female pilot with a visit to In a Nutshell. You will also learn how to help your children navigate social networking. Born in 1929, Martin Luther King Jr. led the way for social change. We honor him and his life’s work on Jan. 16. Also in history in January, the First Fleet landed at Sydney Cove in 1788 to found the Commonwealth of Australia. Throw some shrimp on the barbie to celebrate Australia Day, Jan. 26. We’ll get a little more light in our day starting March 11, when we spring forward for Daylight Savings Time. Remember to wear green and look out for leprechauns on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, and finally, hope springs eternal on March 20, the vernal equinox. Before spring arrives, there’s plenty to do. Test your vocabulary in Treehouse Games, then read up on bug manners and the secrets of the universe in Treehouse Trivia.
